Ross
Ross is a tiny town tucked just beyond Kentfield with a quaint downtown area centered on the Ross Common. The lovely little downtown has a grocery store ( the Ross Grocery has been operated by the same family since WWII), post office, butcher, florist, a few small cafes and offices. The locally owned stores contribute a strong feeling of community to this causally chic town. The Marin Art & Garden Center is a beautiful ten-acre site that houses several non-profit community groups, and offers many activities including a playground and picnic areas. Ross also features some great hiking and biking, and some of the most prominent estates anywhere.

Ross contains some of the oldest and most gracious estates in the country. Architectural styles vary from Victorian to contemporary, and most are well hidden behind park-like settings. Housing is pricey in this ultra-exclusive spot, and stanch zoning restrictions result in practically no new development. The average sold price for 2006 was $2,710,838 for a single-family home. On the whole, sales have remained steady.

Ross is a super small community with an intimate populace. It has one of the highest concentrations of wealth in the United States, and the townspeople reflect their affluent stature. About half the residents are families and educational achievements are high.

The Ross School District serves Ross, and residents are universally proud of their one school district. The academic ranking is in the 99th percentile, the highest any school can achieve. Students attend Ross School from grades K-8, and then Redwood High School in the Tamalpais Union High School District.

Although officially Kentfield is the wettest spot in the Bay Area, some claim it rains more in nearby Ross, where no official measurement is taken. Average temperatures range from 50 to 80 degrees. The warmest months are June to September, and the coldest being December and January.
