Mill Valley is a very popular area of Southern Marin. It has one of the larger populations in the county, and it's known to attract thriving young families in particular. Generally speaking, education levels are high and residents work in a wide range of professions.

Mill Valley residents are served by the Mill Valley School District. Mill Valley's schools generally rank in the top ten percent of the state, making it an appealing town for young families. District enrollment is around 2,250 students. Students go to one of five elementary schools: Edna Maguire, Old Mill, Park, Strawberry Point or Tam Valley. The Mill Valley Middle school serves all residents, and graduates attend Tamalpais High in the Tamalpais Union High School District.
