Marin County

Marin County lies only twenty minutes north of San Francisco, but it seems like another world. Surrounded on three sides by water, Marin is an area of surpassing natural beauty: open space, huge redwood forests, wild beaches, charming small towns and mild weather year round. Marin is very popular - a mecca for hikers, bicyclists, bird-watchers, sunbathers, photographers, artists, sightseers, etc. Visitors come from around the world to marvel in it.

Marin's true charm lies in its eclecticism. It has dozens of distinct communities and a hundred different lifestyles. The county is essentially divided into four regions: South Marin, Central Marin, North Marin and West Marin. Officially, there are 11 incorporated cities in the county. Each community has its own character, history and attraction. South Marin includes the affluent communities of Sausalito, Tiburon, Belvedere and Mill Valley. Central Marin consists of Corte Madera, Larkspur, Greenbrae, Kentfield, Ross, San Anselmo, Fairfax and San Rafael. Novato is the only city in the north. And lastly, there is the area of West Marin made up of a host of charming homey towns.

Thanks to slow growth policies, Marin has a relatively small population that has maintained stable over the years. Beautiful surroundings, charming communities, top ranked schools, fine restaurants and excellent shopping have made Marin one of the world's most desirable places to live.
