Larkspur extends north to the unincorporated district of Greenbrae. Greenbrae runs along Sir Francis Drake Blvd, just off Highway 101. The area started out as a subdivision built in the 1940s, and a special effort was made during the development to preserve the hundreds of majestic oak trees that grace the hillsides. Greenbrae is well known for its Bon Air Shopping Center, the Marin General Hospital and nearby Larkspur Landing ferry terminal.

Greenbrae is well known for its expensive custom homes, waterfront living off the Greenbrae Boardwalk and assortment of low-cost condominiums. Architecture is a mix of styles from elegant to funky. The average sold price for 2006 was $1,301,836 for a single-family home. Overall, real estate sales have remained steady.

The Kentfield School District serves both Greenbrae and Kentfield. Many families seek to locate in the region so their children can attend the highly regarded schools. The total district enrollment is approximately 1,045 students. It is comprised of two different sites: Bacich Elementary School and Kent Middle School. Graduates go on to Redwood High in the Tamalpais Union High School District.
