Fairfax

Fairfax is the gateway to West Marin County. Located 16 miles north of San Francisco, Fairfax offers the best of both work and play, while retaining its small-town charm. Incorporated in 1931, the town of Fairfax shares its identity with a community of artists, musicians, writers and aging hippies. Although, soaring house prices have forced many to move elsewhere. Fairfax has an eclectic mix of small restaurants, bars, coffeehouses and boutiques. The nightlife scene is fairly happening, with restaurants and bars featuring live music in the small downtown stretch. Fairfax is ideal for outdoor lovers, and residents and visitors hike and bike its hills, lakes and lovely forested parks.

The average sold price for 2006 was $812,203 for a single-family home. Real estate sales have climbed of late however.
